Home for now

This was the best sight that I could capture the past two weeks...my mom's empty hospital bed! She is out here visiting from Tennesse. Most of you don't know this, but the reason I have been away from the blog is because my mom just had surgery.

At the begining of September, my mom was admitted to the hospital back in Tennesse for abdominal cramping. After numerous tests and no results, my mom was released with what the doctors suspected was a virus. Excited to move on and prepare for vacation out here in California, she brushed of the slight cramping. Her docotors suggested, that it would take a while for the symptons to subside, and that this could be a symptom she would have to deal with the rest of her life.

Packed and ready to go, my mom made it to California. A week into her vacation, the abdominal cramping was back. We made a trip to the E.R. There they ran more tests, did more scans, and discovered a mass in the bowel. She was prepped and ready for emergency surgery by 7:00 that night. We were a little relieved to know that there really was a reason for her cramping. A couple hours later she was out of surgery and on her way to recovery.

We were told that the mass that was removed would be sent to pathology and to wait for the report and we would go from there. My mom was discharged on the following Tuesday. Weak, tired, and thankful to be out of the hospital we made it home. There we awaited the pathology report. Days went by and we had heard nothing, The following Tuesday my mom had a follow up appointment with the surgeon. She informed us that the mass that was removed was in fact, metastatic carcinoma. She had cancer!

My first initial thought was, we can fight this, we will fight this! There was nothing else we could do, but face this thing head on and become victorius. My moms initial reaction was that my sister was going to freak! How could the doctors in Tennesse have missed something so huge? The surgeon said that my mom needs to recover from the initial surgery. After a few weeks, we can contact the oncologist and go from there.

My mom has a long road to recovery. I realize that this is going to be roller coaster ride to victory. I would ask that you keep her in your prayers. Thanks for your support!

  1. I will be praying for her. It's a bummer that it happened on her vacation, but she couldn't have a better person to take care of her while she recovers.

  2. Wow September! What a story! Sounds a little too familiar to me! I definitely know the feelings that she is experiencing. Just stay strong in the Word and what you know is truth regardless of what the doctors tell you. We know that no matter what road you have to travel, God is still the ultimate healer! We are believing for a quick and complete recovery for her! Let us know if you need anything.
